I’m Tabidha. I absolutely love travelling and today I’ll be sharing about the serendipitous journey to Jaffna with you, where we held the Preliminary Round of Speech Master 2024 and explored the beautiful sights the city had to offer.
The memorable trip to Jaffna
It was exactly 2.30 p.m, on the 1st of March, as we hopped on the bus to head for Jaffna. The anticipation was palpable as we chatted, laughed, and enjoyed the scenic views along the way.
Enjoying in the Bus
With snacks in hand and good company around, the bus ride turned into a mini-party. Songs of extreme dance vibes were played and we were just showing off our dancing skills, no matter how terribly the bus shook. We arrived at about 1.30 in the morning the next day, and headed straight to our rooms to get a 3 hour nap before we began the preparations for the competition.
The Day of the Competition
At 7.30 in the morning, we headed straight to the competition venue, St. John’s College, Jaffna. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as participants geared up for the challenge, and the registrations for the contest began and ended well.
Proud to say that our competition was a roaring success! The Jaffna Preliminary Round of Speech Master 2024 was an absolute triumph! With captivating speeches, eloquent deliveries, and thought-provoking content, the event truly showcased the power of effective communication. Each participant brought their unique perspective and voice to the stage, captivating the judges and the audience and leaving a lasting impact. The level of engagement and enthusiasm from both participants and spectators was unparalleled, making it a memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.
Here’s to the judges whose discerning eyes and insightful feedback made our competition a resounding success! I’d like to thank DTM Paul Godwin, TM Sriskanthan Sribaalaramanan and TM Bhama for their invaluable feedback and meticulous assessment which truly elevated the experience for all participants, inspiring them to strive for greatness.We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our judges for their unwavering commitment to fairness and excellence.
As we drew the curtains on our contest, the air was thick with anticipation as everyone was awaiting the results of the competition. Nervous energy filled the room as participants and spectators alike anxiously awaited the announcement.
And then, the moment of truth was revealed and all the hard work, dedication, and passion culminated in a triumphant celebration of achievement for those who got selected for the Semi Finals.
Post- competition fun
After the competition, we had our lunch and decided to treat ourselves to some delicious ice cream at Rio Ice Cream, one of the best places to have ice cream in Jaffna. We explored the local flavors and indulged in sweet delights, savouring every moment of the culinary adventure.
Next up, we visited the iconic Jaffna Fort. Steeped in history and surrounded by breathtaking views, the fort offered a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage. When we first visited the place for the first time, we were completely taken aback. The views were stunning. We wandered through the fort’s ancient walls, soaking in the beauty and serenity of the surroundings.
Returning Back to Colombo
As the day drew to a close, we reluctantly bid farewell to Jaffna. Reflecting on the memories we made, we boarded the bus back home, cherishing the moments of camaraderie and discovery.
